Sean Dougherty ’08 was a four-time All-Conference honoree for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s lacrosse team, as well as an All-America Honorable Mention attackman. In all four seasons of his career, Dougherty led the Mariners in scoring and would set records that still stand among the annals of Kings Point lacrosse. At the time of induction, his 254 career points are the second-most among USMMA lacrosse players all-time and his 198 goals scored was in the top-20 all-time in NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse for well over a decade. Dougherty collected a thirteen-game hat-trick streak as a junior and led the Mariners to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in his senior season following an upset of then-No. 15 Stevens in the Skyline Conference Championship. He was the Skyline Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in the 2007 campaign and put Kings Point on the lacrosse map, as the team received national recognition in the Division III polls to conclude the season. Dougherty is a significant reason for the 2007 Mariners attaining a regular season-record 13 victories, which was the high-mark for the program for 11 years.
