Daniel Twito ’11 was an elite two-sport athlete at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, earning four letters in wrestling and two for the men’s soccer program. Twito exceled tremendously in both sports and helped lead each program to the highest levels ever attained in Academy history. After his classmate and teammate, he became the second wrestler ever in USMMA history to capture an NCAA Division III Individual National Championship when he took the crown in the 157-pound bracket in 2011. Twito helped lead Kings Point wrestling to its highest finish ever at Nationals, as the Mariners came in eighth place in the country. On the wrestling mat, he was the Academy’s first and only four-time Centennial Conference Champion and four-time NCAA qualifier. On the soccer pitch, Twito was a highly skilled, hard-working and relentless outside midfielder for the most successful team in Academy history in 2010, scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Muhlenberg that propelled the Mariners to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in program history. Also, Twito notably boasted a 6-0 record against arch-rival Coast Guard during his tenure at the Academy.
