Donald Froude ’53 swam three seasons for the Kings Point swimming & diving team in the early 1950s and was the captain of the Mariners his first class year in 1952-53. As a plebe, he won the Metropolitan Championship in the 440-yard freestyle under Head Coach Al Feld. After spending his third class year out at sea for his Sea Year training, Froude came back as a junior and dominated in the newly created 150-yard individual medley event which featured the backstroke, butterfly and freestyle (the precursor of today’s 200 individual medley). He never lost a race in that event during the 1951-52 dual meet season, a year in which the Mariners achieved the program’s first undefeated record. Froude finished his career by continuing his undefeated string in the 150 individual medley during every dual meet his senior season.
