Kenneth Wood ’62 was a superb marksman and two-time team captain for USMMA rifle and pistol. He is one of the rare shooters who earned All-America honors in both disciplines, which is a very impressive feat as being a great rifle shooter does not guarantee proficiency in pistol shooting. He achieved those honors during his second class season in 1961. As a freshman, Wood was a member of the Kings Point pistol team that finished in third place at the National Rifle Association Intercollegiate Pistol Championships, beating out the team from Navy. He went on to lead the rifle team to an 18-2 record and New York State Gallery Championship in 1961, while also being named to the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rifle League All-Star Team. Wood finished out his career leading Kings Point to another NYS Gallery Tournament Championship in 1962, earning a consecutive Met League All-Star Team selection in rifle, while also ranking as the second-best pistol shooter in the New England Region his first class season before graduating Kings Point with honors.
