Mariners Produced 22 Top-Five Finishes At St. John’s Tom Farrell Classic On Saturday

QUEENS, N.Y. (May 4, 2024) – The USMMA men's track & field team competed at St. John's University's Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, with track events at the Red Storm's DaSilva Memorial Field and the field events taking place at Brooks Stadium in Kings Point. The Mariners had a fantastic day, as they placed among the top-five in a total of 22 events, including one first-place finish in the 1500 meter run by sophomore Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.).
 
Meet Links Zwiesler crossed the finished line in first place in the 1500m with a time of 4:08.11.
 
Additionally, the Mariners recorded 10 top-finishes in which they were the first place DIII competitor in the event. They are listed below. 
  • Sophomore Isaiah Sims (Sunnyvale, Texas) placed third in the 200m (22.41)
  • Senior Lance Clemons (Westlake, Ohio) placed second in the 800m (1:55.06)
  • Freshman Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) placed third in the 5K (17:04.71)
  • Senior Andrew Foster (Scottsburg, Ind.) placed second in the 400m hurdles (1:07.91)
  • Freshman Kyle Mancini (Norwalk, Conn.) placed third in the 3000m steeplechase (12:15.96)
  • Junior Blake Giannamore (Portland, Texas) placed second in the pole vault (3.05m / 10' 0")
  • Junior Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) placed second in the long jump (6.92m / 22' 8.5")
  • Bye placed second in the triple jump (13.26m / 3' 6")
  • Freshman Logan Ginther (Clovis, Calif.) placed second in the discus (38.43m / 126' 1")
  • Freshman Alex Courtier (New Port Richey, Fla.) placed third in the javelin (35.09m / 115' 1") 
The remainder of the top-five finishes on the day are listed below. 
  • Sophomore Casey Symons (Harrington Park, N.J.) placed third in the 1500m (4:09.15)
  • Sophomore Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) placed fourth in the 1500m (4:19.07)
  • Sophomore Alex Virostek (Silver Lake, Ohio) placed fourth in the 5K (18:07.11)
  • Junior Ian Taylor (Berea, Ohio) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:10.98)
  • Freshman Justin Lyon (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) placed third in the pole vault (2.38m / 7' 9.75")
  • Sophomore Nathan Fields (Westminster, Md.) placed third in the shot put (14.10m / 46' 3.25")
  • Ginther placed fifth in the shot put (11.18m / 36' 8.25")
  • Fields placed fourth in the discus (36.31m / 119' 1")
  • Fields placed second in the hammer (36.07m / 118' 4")
  • Ginther placed fourth in the hammer (32.50m / 106' 7")
  • Freshman Robert Baum (South Hamilton, Mass.) placed fourth in the javelin (34.20m / 112' 2") 
Up next, the Mariners will compete in Army's West Point Twilight Meet this coming Thursday, May 8, beginning at 2 p.m. up at Army's Shea Stadium. If there are live links for the meet, they will be posted on the USMMA Men's Track & Field Schedule Page before action begins.
