CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!! Mariners Capture Skyline Crown, Claim Program's Fourth Title In Six Seasons

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (April 26, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field team captured its fourth Skyline Conference Crown in six seasons at the 2026 Skyline Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Farmingdale State. Merchant Marine finished with 258 points, outmuscling back-to-back defending Conference Champion Farmingdale State by 20 points, who finished second with 238, riding first-place finishes in the men's 5000m and 4x400m relay to win the program's first title since the 2022-23 season.

The Mariners had nine runners place first in their respective events and registered 40 top-five finishes on the day.

The Blue and Gray took two major awards, with senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) earning Skyline Track Athlete of the Year honors, while classmate Ben Rini (Vermilion, Ohio) was named Co-Field Athlete of the Year. Zwiesler delivered a dominant championship performance for the Mariners, capturing three individual titles in the distance events. He won the men's 800 meters, 1,500 meters, and 5,000 meters with times of 2:00.69, 4:13.06, and 16:03.59.

Rini added three top-five finishes on the afternoon with second-place finishes in the men's shot put and javelin, with marks of 14.01m (45' 11.75") and 40.71m (133' 7"). He also added a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 36.85m (120' 11").

KP continued their outstanding day in the distance events as senior Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) placed second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:15.08, while freshman Arjun Suresh (Plainsboro, N.J.) finished fourth in 4:17.31. Freshman Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished second in the men's 5000 meters with a personal best time of 16:09.93. Senior Casey Symons (Harrington Park, N.J.) also added a new PR with a time of 16:17.76 and a third-place finish.

Johnson also added a third-place finish and another PR in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:13.95. Sophomore Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wyo.) crossed the tape in fourth in 10:26.91 while freshman Caden Davis (Katy, Texas) placed fifth with a personal best time of 10:43.22.

USMMA's relay teams delivered crucial points at the meet, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay, where the quartet of sophomore Holden Collier (Mount Vernon, Wash.), Glynn, freshman JP Park (Falling Waters, W.Va.), and freshman Mackay Minter (Townsend, Ga.) clocked in with a winning time of 3:29.98. The Mariners also secured a first-place finish and set a new program record with a time of 43.01 in the 4x100 meter relay behind freshmen Kaiser Ilker (Greenwich, Conn.) and Scott Ford (Baltimore, Md.), Collier, and Minter. They surpassed the previous school record of 43.16 set by William Gornell (Southlake, Texas), Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas), Isaiah Sims (Sunnyvale, Texas), and Miguel Millan (Lake Travis, Texas) at the 2024 Skyline Conference Championship.

Freshman Gage Holub (Mount Vernon, Iowa) captured first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.23, while sophomore Tommy Tan (Norfolk, Va.) placed fifth in 18.13. Holub also added a fourth-place finish and another personal best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.64. Senior Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) contributed a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:05.93.

Sophomore Garrett Rees (Rising Sun, Md.) grabbed first place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 43.13m (141' 6") while classmate Easton Millard (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earned first place in the javelin with a throw of 42.05m (137' 11"). Freshman Carter Johnson (Anchorage, Alaska) added a third-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 39.42m (129' 4"), while sophomore Nicholas Troiano (Burlington Flats, N.Y.) placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.00m (39' 4.5").

Senior Corey Haney (Medina, Ohio) finished second in the pole vault with a 3.70m (12' 1.5") mark, while freshman Charles Case (Cream Ridge, N.J.) finished third with a mark of 3.40m (11' 1.75").

Ford added a fourth-place finish in both the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 6.45m (21' 2") and 13.15m (43' 1.75"). Senior Eli Campeau (Louisville, Ky.) and Holub each cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump to place fourth and fifth, respectively.

Merchant Marine returns to action on Thursday, May 7, at the West Point Twilight hosted by the Army in West Point, N.Y.
