Zwiesler Wins 5K, Mariners Turn In 11 Top-10 Finishes At Ramapo Invitational

MAHWAH, N.J. (March 28, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field team kicked off their 2026 Outdoor season with a bang over two days at the Ramapo Invitational. The Mariners finished fourth out of a competitive field of 25 teams with a score of 55 points, defeating Conference foe Manhattanville by 54 points while also recording 11 top-10 finishes and a collection of personal bests.

Meet Link Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) led the way for the Blue and Gray across the two days of competition, registering a first-place finish in the men's 5,000 meter with a personal-best time of 15:29.60 on Friday. Freshman Enois Maceira (Monroe Township, N.J.) and senior Alex Virostek (Silver Lake, Ohio) both registered personal bests in the 5000 meter with times of 16:41.10 and 17:44.68.

Kings Point followed that up with another excellent performance in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, led by sophomore Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wyo.), who finished fourth with a time of 10:47.71. Freshman Caden Davis (Katy, Texas) placed sixth in 10:51.08, and senior Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) crossed the finish line in seventh with a time of 10:58.10. Sophomore Rory McWeeney (Portland, Ore.) rounded out the group with a ninth-place finish and personal-best time of 12:33.64.

Senior Ben Rini (Vermilion, Ohio) posted a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.94 meters (45' 9"). Sophomore Easton Millard (Scottsdale, Ariz.) placed 10th in the javelin throw with a toss of 39.58 meters.

Zwiesler posted his second top 10 finish in the men's 800 meters, crossing the finish line in third with a personal-best time of 1:57.20 while classmate Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) added a ninth-place finish in 2:01.98.

KP posted a top 10 finish in the men's 4x800 meter relay as freshmen JP Park (Falling Waters, W.Va.), sophomore Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.), senior Karsten Peters (Cromwell, Conn.), and Maciera finished in fourth with a time of 8:33.58.

Sophomore Garrett Rees (Rising Sun, Md.) finished ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.92m.

Merchant Marine returns to competition on Saturday, April 4, at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational in New London, Conn.
