WESTMINSTER, Md. (Jan. 31, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team earned a pair of Centennial Conference wins on Saturday at the first of back-to-back weekends of Centennial Duals, this round hosted by McDaniel College. The Mariners (8-5, 2-1 Centennial) defeated Gettysburg, 26-15, in the opener, before a big comeback victory, 24-21, over the host Green Terror in the nightcap.

Meet Link Three Mariners were victorious in both of their bouts on the day. Senior Wesley Wydick (Utica, Ohio) produced two first-period pins at 133, junior Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) manufactured two technical falls (the first at 197 vs. Gettysburg and then the clincher at 285 against McDaniel) and freshman Aidan Dugan (Westwood, N.J.) at 184 had a decision in the first match and a major decision in the second.

In the opener against the Bullets, USMMA fell behind 3-0 after 125, but Wydick quickly gave KP at 6-3 win with his pin. Gettysburg responded with a fall of its own at 141 to go back ahead, however a decision by freshman Aiden Krass (Gonzales, La.) at 149 and a major by sophomore Logan Weaver (Suwanee, Ga.) at 157 put the Mariners ahead, 13-9. After a sudden-victory decision at 165 for the Bullets, Merchant Marine clinched the match with three-straight victories at 174 by way of a major decision for sophomore Porter Gresko (Sparks, Nev.), Dugan's decision at 184 and Withers' 18-2 tech fall at 197.

In the second match, the Mariners fell behind 21-9 through the first six bouts, with their only victories coming from Wydick's pin at 133 and a decision by junior Matthew Trinidad (Mesa, Ariz.) at 157. The comeback started as freshman Andrew Huesgen (Shillington, Pa.) claimed the first of four-straight wins at 174 with a decision, followed by Dugan's MD at 184 and a 5-0 decision by junior Grant Mathias (Rockwood, Pa.) at 197 that made the score 21-19. Head Coach Beau Bruno decided to have Withers wrestle up a weight class and it paid off, as the junior earned a second-period technical fall, 17-1, to complete the comeback.

Coach Bruno was happy with the team's performance, especially considering they had two different lineups from 157-285 for the two matches (except at 184).

The Mariners are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 7, when they travel back down to Maryland to take part in the second weekend of Centennial Duals, hosted by Johns Hopkins. They will face the host Blue Jays as well as Muhlenberg College beginning at 12-noon at Hopkins' Goldfarb Gymnasium.
