EWING, N.J. (Feb. 28, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team sent nine Mariners to take part in the 2026 NCAA Division III Region 3 Championships this weekend, hosted by The College of New Jersey. USMMA had two team members reach the podiums in their respective brackets with sixth-place finishes.
 
As a team, the Mariners came in 14th place with 40.5 points. The host TCNJ Lions came in first place, claiming the Regional Championship with 174 points after finishing ahead of second-place NYU (140.0) and third-place Messiah (133.5).

The Mariners' two sixth-place finishers were juniors Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) at 197 and Grant Mathias (Rockwood, Pa.) at 285. Mathias went 3-3 with one pin, while Withers reached the semifinals of his bracket after winning his first two bouts by way of falls before dropping his next three matches.
 
Also picking up multiple victories for the Mariners over the two-day event were freshman Aiden Krass (Gonzales, La.) at 149, sophomore Logan Weaver (Suwanee, Ga.) at 157 and freshman Andrew Huesgen (Shillington, Pa.) at 174. Extra points were earned when Krass picked up a pin and a technical fall, Weaver recorded a major decision and Huesgen produced a pair of tech falls.
