Suresh, Zwiesler, Ford Lead Mariners’ Top-10-Filled Showing At William Sutherland Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 24, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field team competed Saturday afternoon at the William Sutherland Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State at James Moore Field House. The Mariners turned in a strong slate of performances, highlighted by multiple event wins, several top-10 finishes, and a pair of personal bests.

Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) and freshman Arjun Suresh (Plainsboro, N.J.) led the way for the Blue and Gray with first-place finishes in the men's 5000 meters and the men's mile. Zwiesler delivered a highlight performance in the men's 5,000 meters, winning the event with a personal-best time of 15:36.67, while Suresh PR'ed with a first-place finish in the Men's Mile with a time of 4:37.06.

Freshman Scott Ford (Baltimore, Md.) turned in three top 10 performances in the men's sprint and field events. Ford placed ninth in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 23.97 and added a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.46 meters (21' 2.5"). He also added another personal best in the men's triple jump, finishing seventh with a mark of 12.28 meters (40' 3.5").

USMMA also had a strong showing in the men's mile and men's 5000 meters as Seniors Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) and Alex Virostek (Silver Lake, Ohio) had strong showings in the men's mile and men's 5000 meters with ninth-place finishes and personal best times of 4:45.87 and 18:20.15.

Sophomore Holden Collier (Mount Vernon, Wash.) highlighted the Mariners' effort in the men's 400 meters, placing ninth with a time of 54.70, and also recorded a personal best in the men's 55 meters with a time of 7.13.

KP followed with another productive performance in the men's 800 meters, where four athletes finished inside the top 10. Senior Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) paced the group with a fourth-place finish in 2:03.56, while Ramthun added his second top-10 of the meet with a seventh-place finish in 2:07.02. Freshman JP Park (Falling Waters, W.Va.) placed ninth with a personal-best time of 2:10.77, and sophomore Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wyo.) completed the group in 10th at 2:10.87.

The Mariners continued their strong distance showing in the men's 3,000 meters, placing five runners inside the top 10. Freshman Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the group in fifth with a time of 9:46.15, followed closely by Glynn, who recorded a personal-best 9:46.17 to finish sixth. Freshman Enois Maceira (Monroe Township, N.J.) placed seventh in 9:47.90, while Chase Pavlow (Holland, Pa.) and Virostek rounded out the top 10 in ninth and 10th, respectively, with times of 10:21.39 and 10:35.70.

Sophomore Garrett Rees (Rising Sun, Md.) earned a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.29 meters (43' 7.25").

Kings Point returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Fastrack National Invite at noon.
