KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 16, 2025) - On Monday, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) announced that two members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team earned postseason accolades for their contributions to the Mariners' best season in program history. Sophomore Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) earned First Team All-Met honors, and freshman Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) landed on the Second Team.
Grasseler was named Skyline Conference Player of the Year and a First Team All-Skyline to go along with All-ECAC First Team accolades after leading the Mariners in scoring average (15.6 ppg) and ranking second on the squad in rebounds per game (10.3 rpg). She also posted 13 double doubles on the season which was good for 25th in the nation.
Barton was named Skyline Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year as well as the D3hoops.com Region 3 Rookie of the Year. She also received First Team All-Skyline and All-Region 3 honors and became the program's second-ever All-American by the WBCA. Barton ranked fifth in all of Division III with 18 double-doubles on the season.
