GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 1, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team boasted six All-Region performers and will be sending two Mariners to the NCAA National Championships, as the squad finished in fifth-place overall at the NCAA Region III Championship Meet held Friday and Saturday at Messiah University.

Sophomore
Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) was the bracket winner at 184 and senior
Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) placed second at 285, as both of them will be representing Kings Point at Nationals in Providence, R.I. in mid-March.

Withers went an undefeated 4-0 with one pin and two major decisions to win the individual regional championships at the 184-pound bracket. Garrison won his first three bouts at 285 with two pins and a major decision, but lost in the finals via a close 13-10 decision to Alvernia's Mauro Pellot.

Senior
Eddie Pinc (Medina, Ohio) and sophomore
Grant Mathias (Rockwood, Pa.) will serve as first alternates after finishing in fourth place at 157 and 197, respectively. Pinc went 5-2 with a pin and a major decision and Mathias' record was 3-2 with two pins.

Also reaching the podiums to attain All-Region honors were junior
Wesley Wydick (Utica, Ohio) and senior
Charlie Lausten (Ashburn, Va.), who both placed seventh at 133 and 141, respectively, with identical 3-2 records with two pins apiece.
