KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team lost its home dual meet to nationally ranked #15 Coast Guard on Wednesday night, 35-18, inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Mariners' dual record to 9-6, while the Bears improve to 12-1 on the season.
Prior to the match, the Mariners paid tribute to their nine graduating seniors with a special Senior Night ceremony honoring

The Bears raced out to a 35-0 lead in the match, which included triumphs by nationally ranked #1 Chase Randall at 133 via a tech fall and #10 Nate Fitt at 149 via a forfeit, as well as wins by three other regionally ranked wrestlers.
The Mariners energized the crowd during the final three bouts, however, with a trio of second-period falls.
Sophomore
Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.), who is ranked #4 in Region 4, picked up a pin in 3:37 over the fourth-ranked wrestler in Region 1, the Bears' Gabe Monroe.
Then Cowley got the fans on their feet once again with a fall in 3:58 over Coast Guard's Kenny Marra.
The biggest matchup of the night was a showdown between a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers at heavyweight, as #6 Carl DiGiorgio took on Garrison, who came in at #11 in the latest rankings released on Feb. 7. Garrison jumped out to an early lead and earned a takedown midway through the second period before quickly pinning DiGiorgio in 3:54 and ending the match.
Up next, the Mariners will compete in the 2025 Centennial Conference Championships this Saturday, Feb. 15, hosted by Gettysburg College. Action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. at the Bullets' Bream Gym. More information on the Championship Meet will be available on
