YORK, Pa. (Dec. 7, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team competed in the two-day New Standard Corp. Invitational hosted by York College of Pennsylvania this weekend. The Mariners came in fifth place, the highest at this event in team history, with a team score of 101.5 points, which tied Delaware Valley. Roanoke College won the event with 143.5 points.
Senior
Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) won the 285-pound bracket for the second-straight season after he went a perfect 5-0 with three pins and a major decision. He was one of four Mariners that reached the podium when all was said and done.
Sophomore
Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) placed second at 184 after going 4-1 with all four victories coming by way of pins. Freshman
Maxwell Corral (Oak Forest, Ill.) came in fourth at 165, as he went 4-2, and sophomore
Grant Mathias (Rockwood, Pa.) had two victories, one via a major decision, en route to a sixth-place showing at 197.

The Mariners are back in action next Saturday, Dec. 14, when they travel up to Providence, R.I. to take on Rhode Island College in a dual meet that starts at 1 p.m.
