Wrestling Opens The Season At Ned McGinley Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2024) – Five members of the USMMA wrestling team placed to help the Mariners to an impressive seventh-place showing at the season-opening Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King's College on Saturday. The Mariners scored 81 points as a team. NYU won the meet with 175.5 points.
 
Meet Links Senior Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) placed second at 285 with a record of 4-1. He picked up one pin, one technical fall and one major decision along the way.
 
Junior Corey Haney (Medina, Ohio) at 141, sophomore Matthew Trinidad (Mesa, Ariz.) at 149, freshman Maxwell Corral (Oak Forest, Ill.) at 165 and sophomore Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) at 184 all came in sixth place in their respective brackets.
 
Haney went 4-2 with four falls. Trinidad was also 4-2 with one pin and one tech fall. Corral produced a 4-2 record with three falls and Withers went 3-2 with two pins.
 
Also picking up falls for the Mariners on the day were freshman Matthew Gauthier (Forked River, N.J.) with two at 165, junior Wesley Wydick (Utica, Ohio) with one at 133, sophomore Colin Dragon (Richmond Hill, Ga.) also with one at 133, freshman Lucas Maneckshaw (Maurepas, La.) with one at 149, freshman Colby Cloutier (Wrentham, Mass.) with one at 165, sophomore Matthew Ferrucci (Killingworth, Conn.) also with one at 165, junior Joe Wasilewski (Stafford, Va.) with one at 174, sophomore Caleb Borchers (Vacaville, Calif.) also with one at 174 and freshman Alexander Soto (Fort Myers, Fla.) with one at 184.
 
Up next, the Mariners will compete at the 2024 Metro Duals hosted by NYU on Saturday, Nov. 16, beginning at 11 a.m.
