KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2024) – On Tuesday morning, the Centennial Conference announced that USMMA wrestling senior
Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) was named the league's Wrestler of the Week after he went 3-0 this past weekend at the Metro Duals hosted by New York University.
Garrison went 3-0 last week with two pins and a decision as the Mariners went 3-0 in dual action with victories over New Jersey City, Hunter and #16 NYU en route to the team title at the 2024 Metro Duals. Garrison opened the day with a pin in 1:02 over New Jersey City before pinning his Hunter opponent in just 24 seconds.
The senior heavyweight closed out the Metro Duals with an 8-1 decision over a familiar foe and fellow nationally ranked wrestler from NYU, Evan Anderson (ranked 19th in the latest d3wrestle.com national rankings).
Garrison needed to win that final bout for the Mariners to have a chance for the upset over the Violets. And with his victory, the score of the match became 27-27, and USMMA was awarded the additional point and the victory in the dual thanks to the second tie-breaking criteria of team falls, with four pins in the match to the Violets' two.
