KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 16, 2021) - The USMMA women's basketball team lost at home to Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary, 57-44, on Thursday evening at the Liebertz Gym. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 8-2 (6-2 Skyline), while the Knights improve to 7-2 (5-0 Skyline) with the victory.

It was a three-point game in favor of MSMC mid-way through the third quarter, but the visitors used a strong finish to that frame and then a hot start to the fourth to pull away to a double-digit lead early in the final stanza. The Knights' advantage grew to as many as 18 points with just 3:29 to play after they went on a 12-4 run to start the fourth.

The Mariners were led by junior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.), who had a double-double tying for the game-high 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Freshman Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) added eight points and brought down a game-high 16 boards, while senior Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) also chipped in with eight points.

Three players scored in double-figures for the Knights, who connected on 11 three-pointers in the affair. Senior Katie Smith tied Demos for the game-high with 13 points and classmate Lauren Desrats added 11. Freshman Ciarra Quinn drained 10 points, while senior Annie Keenan led the way on the glass for Mount St. Mary with 10 rebounds.

The Mariners are back in action in the New Year, when they hit the road to take on Skyline opponent Purchase on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the campus of SUNY Purchase College in Westchester County.
