LEWISTON, Maine (March 6, 2026) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team's season came to an end against #9 Bates College, 71-57, on Friday night in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Championships at Alumni Gym. The Mariners conclude their season with a 23-5 overall record, while the Bobcats improve to 25-3 and advance to the second round to face Smith.

The Blue and Gray had four players score in double figures on the night. Senior
Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) led the way with a team-high 18 points while sophomore
Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) chipped in with 13 points. Sophomore
Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) registered her team-leading 20th double-double with 12 points and a game-best 12 boards while swatting away a team-high two shots and tying for another team-best with two steals. Junior
Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) contributed 12 points and tied for a team-high with two steals, while freshman
Jaden Lodice (Littleton, Colo.) dished out a game-high six assists.
Bates was led by Sarah Hughes, who scored a game-high 23 points, while Sophie Spolter added 20 points in the victory.
Merchant Marine shot 25-for-89 (28.1%) from the field and 5-for-26 (19.2%) from three-point range, while Bates finished the night 26-for-77 (33.8%) from the floor and 8-for-27 (29.6%) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats also converted 13-of-16 (81.3%) at the free-throw line, including a perfect 10-for-10 effort in the fourth quarter. USMMA held a narrow 44-43 advantage on the boards.
USMMA's 23-5 record was their second straight 20-win season and their sixth overall dating back to 2018-19.
