Mariners Sink Eastern, 20-2, On The Road On Saturday

ST, DAVIDS, Pa. (March 30, 2019) – Seven different USMMA women's lacrosse players had multi-point games, including three with hat tricks, as the Mariners defeated Eastern University, 20-2, on Saturday at the Eagles' Olson Field. The victory improves Merchant Marine's record to 7-0, while EU falls to 1-6 in defeat. 

Junior Grace McHugh (Sturbridge, Mass.) led all players in the game with four points on a goal and three assists, while the following Mariners all recorded hat tricks – senior Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) and freshmen Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) and Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.). Senior Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) and junior Angela Parker (Bowie, Md.) both had two goals and one helper apiece, and senior Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) rounded out the multi-point scorers with two tallies. 

Also finding the back of the net for USMMA were senior sisters Elizabeth and Catherine Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.), junior Sage Hicks-Fredenburg (Rockledge, Fla.) and freshman Helen Davis (Dagsboro, Del.)

Schmidt led the Mariners with five draw controls and tied for the team-lead with classmate Cara Bebey (Fairfield, Conn.) with four groundballs, while Malone caused a team-best three turnovers. 

Senior Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) earned the victory with four saves in nearly 45 minutes of action. Freshman Sunny Rooney (Ardsley, Pa.) finished the final 15-plus minutes and secured the win for Merchant Marine. 

For the Eagles, sophomore Meghan Kosmides and junior Mackenzie Dix both recorded goals, while Kosmides led all players in the game with nine caused turnovers, sophomore Allison Andres gobbled up a game-high six groundballs and classmate Stephanie Arnold had six caused turnovers. In net, junior Stephanie Arnold suffered the loss despite making six saves.
