Women's Lacrosse Upended By Catholic Saturday On The Road

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 18, 2015) – On Saturday, the USMMA women's lacrosse team lost a road Landmark Conference game at Catholic by the final score of 18-1. The defeat drops the Mariners to 1-8 (0-5 Landmark), while the Cardinals improve to 11-3 (5-0 Landmark).

Freshman Madeline Thibeault (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) scored the lone goal on the afternoon for Merchant Marine in the second half of action. In goal, junior Rachel Smith (Broomfield, Colo.) made one save. Thibeault led the squad with three groundballs and four caused turnovers, while freshman Sarah Milafsky (Aurora, Colo.) had one draw control.

For the Cardinals, Madeline Wilson led all player with six points on a goal and five assists. Laura Dunn contributes five points with two goals and three helpers. Seven other Catholic players recorded multi-point games. Goalie Tricia Pehnke earned the victory for the home squad.

The Mariners will be in action next this coming Tuesday, April 21, when they host bitter-rival Coast Guard for the first meeting between the two schools, as this is the Bears' first season sponsoring women's lacrosse on the NCAA level. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
