ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (March 28, 2015) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team made its first trip ever to Elizabethtown College on Saturday to face their Landmark Conference opponent and the host Blue Jays came out on top by the final score of 17-3.
Freshman Madeline Thibeault (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) scored twice for the Mariners to improve her season goal total to a team-high nine and sophomore Emily Finnin (Littleton, Colo.) registered her first goal of the season. Junior goalie Rachel Smith (Broomfield, Colo.) made a season-best 15 saves between the pipes.
Finnin and freshman Rebecca Bessler (Kent, Wash.) both picked up a team-high four groundballs, while Finnin and Thibeault recorded three draw controls. Thibeault also had three GBs and two caused turnovers.
The Blue Jays were led by sophomore Addie Stang, who had seven points on four goals and three assists. Junior Dana Robidoux recorded six points on five goals and an assist. Three other players scored two goals each and two others had one goal apiece. Freshman goalie Michelle Fuller had three saves in the opening half and earned the victory. Fuller was replaced by classmate Jessica Battaglia for the second half and she had three saves as well.
Merchant Marine's next game is this coming Wednesday, April 1, when the squad welcomes the College of Saint Elizabeth in a non-conference affair that begins at 7 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats will be available at this link and a live video feed can be found by clicking here.
