Merchant Marine Honors Seniors Prior to Final Home Contest

Box Score

Kings Point, NY – The United States Merchant Marine Academy honored their five graduating seniors prior to Monday night's contest against the Rams of Farmingdale State for their efforts in helping to build the women's lacrosse program at Kings Point during its inaugural season.

Seniors Nancy Barriga (Queens, NY), Jessica Willey (Warner Robins, GA), Lauren Callahan (Mineola, NY), Lauren Seabode (Trappe, MD), and Kristen Bell (New City, NY) all helped provide guidance and leadership to the budding women's lacrosse program at USMMA.

After the Senior Night ceremony, the crowd was treated to an enthralling rendition of the Star Spangled Banner performed wonderfully by Willey, who would later tally an assist in the game.

Unfortunately for the Mariners, much of the contest was dominated by Farmingdale State as they improved their record to 12-2 after the 16-2 victory; leaving Merchant Marine still searching for a victory in their opening season of play.

The Rams notched the first 10 goals of the contest, holding Merchant Marine off the scoreboard in the first half.

Nicole Marzocca led Farmingdale with five points (1G, 4A) as three different players tallied a game-leading two goals for the Rams.

The Mariners came out of the break strong as Willey fed Bell in front of the net, who fired a shot past the Farmingdale keeper for the score to put Merchant Marine on the board eight minutes into the second half.

Seven minutes later, junior Alexandra Winfree was able to convert on a free position chance to cut the Mariners deficit to 10-2.

The Rams would tighten their defense and keep the Mariners off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest as Farmingdale State would score the final six goals; three in the final 94 seconds of play, to leave Kings Point with the victory.

Mariners' freshman goalkeeper Kelly Allison made 17 saves on the night as the Rams pelted a total of 37 shots in her direction.

USMMA has three more road games on their schedule and will be in action Wednesday, April 15 when they take on future Landmark Conference opponent Drew at 4:00 PM.
