KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 7, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team earned a 6-1 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase at home on Tuesday afternoon at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The Mariners improved to 5-1 overall (4-0 Skyline), while the Panthers moved to 4-3 (1-2 Skyline) in defeat.

Merchant Marine picked up the doubles point by winning two of the three flights. Freshmen
Keegan Dutton (Temple, Texas) and
Travis Filer (Conroe, Texas) posted a 6-1 win at #2 and classmates
Zach Diep (Oxnard, Calif.) and
Travis Boyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) were awarded a victory by forfeit at #3.

In singles play, USMMA won five of the six flights. Junior
Alex Lewis (Williamsburg, Va.) picked up the first point at #6 by forfeit, before Diep followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 and Dutton added a 6-1, 6-1 decision at #4 to clinch the team win.

Sophomore
Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.) delivered a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #3, and classmate
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) earned a 6-3, 6-1 result at #2. Purchase earned its lone point at the top flight.

The Mariners are back in action on Thursday, April 9, when they travel to Coast Guard for a rivalry match against the Bears scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
