Mariners Cruise Past Manhattanville In Skyline Semis, Advance To Championship Game At Home This Saturday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 30, 2026) – The top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship Game with a decisive 26-3 victory over fourth-seeded Manhattanville in the semifinal round on Thursday night at Brooks Stadium. With the win, the Mariners improve to 11-5 overall, while the Valiants close their season at 7-9.
 
Game Link Seniors Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) and Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the offensive effort with five goals apiece, while sophomore Brendan Ring (Philadelphia, Pa.) added four goals and two helpers in the second half.
 
Freshman Nathan Mangus (Sugar Land, Texas) contributed three goals and an assist, and classmate Dylan Sullivan (Warwick, N.Y.) posted four points on two goals and two helpers. Fellow plebe Ryan Sullivan (Warwick, N.Y.) also recorded a multi-point effort with two goals and one assist, while sophomore Landon Locke (Midlothian, Va.) dished out three assists to pace the attack.
 
USMMA controlled possession throughout, holding a 57-21 ground ball advantage and winning 24-of-32 face-offs. Sophomore Tucker Kuhn (Towson, Md.) led the way at the X, going 10-of-14 with a team-high seven ground balls, while senior Jason Rupli (Washington, D.C.) added eight face-off wins.
 
Defensively, senior Michael Valentine IV (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) anchored a dominant unit with five caused turnovers and six ground balls, consistently disrupting Manhattanville's offensive rhythm. Classmate Christian Meyers (Miller Place, N.Y.) added five ground balls and a caused turnover, as the Mariners limited the Valiants to just three goals on the night.
 
In goal, junior Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) earned the win with three saves over 45 minutes, while sophomore Jack Stehlik (Hood River, Ore.) and junior Joseph Montazella (Lyme, Conn.) combined for three saves in relief.
 
Manhattanville received goals from three different players, while Drew Palladino recorded the team's lone assist.
 
The Mariners will host third-seeded SUNY Maritime in the Skyline Conference Championship Game this Saturday, May 2. Opening face-off is scheduled for noon at Brooks Stadium.
