KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 29, 2026) – The USMMA tennis team earned a 5-2 non-conference victory over Hunter College on Sunday afternoon at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The Mariners improved to 4-1 overall on the season, while Hunter moved to 1-3.

The doubles pairing of freshmen Travis Filer (Conroe, Texas) and Zach Diep (Oxnard, Calif.) opened play with a 6-0 win at #3, before sophomores Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) and Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.) secured a 6-2 victory at the top flight to claim the doubles point for Merchant Marine.
 
In singles action, USMMA picked up four wins across the lineup. Boyd got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #6, and Filer followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5.
 
After Hunter responded with a win at the top flight, Zhao earned a 6-2, 6-3 decision at #2 to put the Mariners back in front. Dutton added a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #3 to clinch the team win, while the visitors picked up the remaining point at #4 on a third-set tiebreaker.
 
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, April 1, when they travel to Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference match beginning at 4:30 p.m.
