NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 18, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-5 decision to rival Coast Guard on Wednesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field in New London, Conn. The loss moves the Mariners to 1-3 on the season, while the Bears improve to 3-1.

A trio of Mariners recorded two points each, all with a goal and an assist – junior
Leslie Wysong (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), sophomore
Reese Ripley (Denver, Colo.) and freshman
Isabelle Perry (Atlanta, Ga.). Junior
Grace Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa.) and sophomore
Amber Fields (St. Augustine, Fla.) each added a goal. Wysong controlled a team-best five draws and also caused three turnovers, while Ripley led all players in the game with six ground balls.

Nicole Nagengast (Seaford, N.Y.) and freshman
Sarah Litz (Westminster, Md.) added two caused turnovers apiece. In goal, senior
Karianna Eagle (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) made six saves over the full 60 minutes.

Coast Guard struck first just 41 seconds into the contest, but the Mariners answered quickly as Ripley found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. The Bears responded with three of the final four goals of the opening quarter, including a man-up marker and a tally in the final minute, to take a 4-1 lead after one. CGA extended its advantage in the second quarter with three more goals, while Fields scored midway through the period for USMMA, as the Bears carried a 7-2 lead into halftime.

The hosts continued to build on their lead in the third quarter, scoring three times to push the margin to 10-2 before Wysong converted a man-up opportunity late in the period off an assist from Perry. In the final quarter, Coast Guard opened with two more goals before the Mariners answered with scores from Perry and Picozzi to trim the deficit. The Bears closed out the game with three additional tallies to secure the 15-5 victory.

Coast Guard was led by Abby McAllister, who finished with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists, while Joely Schaumloffel added five points on four goals and one assist. Isabella Judge contributed four points (2G, 2A). Ella Campbell recorded game-highs in draw controls (7) and caused turnovers (6), while also tying for the team-best with four ground balls. In goal, Kailee Heron made six saves to earn the win for the Bears.

The Mariners return home this Saturday, March 21, when they host Cedar Crest at 1 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
