Men’s Cross Country Stays Unstoppable With Third Straight Win At Queensborough Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2025) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team won their third consecutive meet on Sunday morning, taking first place at the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. The Mariners placed five runners in the top 10, including two in the top five, en route to a commanding first-place finish out of 20 teams with 30 points, defeating Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's Long Island by 54 points.

Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) led the Blue and Gray again with his third straight runner-up finish in 28:18.16. Freshman Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii) was next across the line with his best finish of the season in fourth place with a time of 29:33.41.

Junior Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) finished seventh overall in 30:04.47, followed closely by senior Casey Symons (Harrington Park, N.J.) in eighth at 30:11.23. Senior Ben Anastasoff (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) closed out the top ten finishes in ninth place, clocking in at 30:17.26. Classmate Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) rounded out the top six for Merchant Marine, registering a time of 30:41.50.

The Mariners return to competition next month on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Rowan Border Battle.
