Zwiesler Leads The Way For Mariners At Competitive Rowan Border Battle

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Oct. 18, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team raced at the Rowan Border Battle, held at Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J., on Saturday morning. The Mariners finished 23rd out of 35 teams at a competitive meet featuring eight teams holding top-five rankings in their respective regions.

Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) led the way for the Blue and Gray, crossing the finish line in 26:07.7 and freshman Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii) recorded a personal best of 26:47.8. Senior Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) came across the tape next in 27:06.6. Classmate Casey Symons (Harrington Park, N.J.) and junior Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) finished with times of 27:18.8 and 27:46.7, respectively. Senior Benjamin Anastasoff (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) rounded out the Mariners' top six in 27:49.9.

In the Men's Open 8K, freshman Chase Pavlow (Holland, Pa.) was the Blue and Gray's top finisher with a personal best of 30:11.7, followed by classmate Ian Antunes (Haddon Heights, N.J.) finishing in 30:31.1. Sophomore John Piangozza (Smithtown, N.Y.) and senior Karsten Peters (Cromwell, Conn.) posted with times of 31:06.1 and 33:10.7 to round out the USMMA's competitors.

Merchant Marine laces it up again on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Skyline Conference Championships at 11 a.m. in Purchase, New York.
