RED HOOK, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2025) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team won their second straight meet on Saturday morning at the Fred Pavlich Invitational. The Mariners had four runners finish in the top 10, leading the squad to a first-place finish out of nine teams with 34 points, defeating runner-up New Paltz by eight.

Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) paced the Blue and Gray with a second-place finish, crossing the tape with a time of 27:01.3. Classmate Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) crossed next for USMMA, earning sixth place in 28:00.8, followed closely by freshman Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii) in seventh with a time of 28:13.9.

Senior Casey Symons (Harrington Park, N.J.) rounded out the top 10 finishers for USMMA, taking 10th overall with a time of 28:42.7. Sophomore Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) and senior Ben Anastasoff (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) both put up their best finishes of the season. Murray finished 13th overall with a time of 29:10.7, while Anastasoff completed the course in 29:39.5 and finished 17th overall.
Merchant Marine returns to competition on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Queensborough Invitational at noon.
