Mariners Split Tri-Match At Gordon College

WENHAM, Mass. (Aug. 30, 2025) – On Saturday, the USMMA women's volleyball team traveled to Massachusetts for a tri-match at Gordon College. The Mariners earned a split on the day, sweeping Husson in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) in their first match and falling to the Lions 3-1 in the second to drop to 2-1 overall.

Match Links In the first match, freshman Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) led USMMA with nine kills while junior Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) contributed eight and sophomore Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) added seven. Douglas and Stillinger both led the match with four service aces each, while junior setter Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) dished out a game-high 26 assists.

Defensively, Douglas collected a team high 11 digs while senior libero Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) chipped in with 10, and Soboloski recorded nine.

As a team, USMMA finished with 31 kills, 28 assists, 12 service aces, 44 digs, two total blocks, and hit .155 in their first match.

Against Gordon, Stillinger and Soboloski led the Blue and Gray offensive attack with a team-high 12 kills each. Sophomores Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) and Douglas each contributed five kills while Tipps handed out a career-high 31 assists.

Defensively, Schatzman scooped up a game-high 25 digs, and Soboloski completed her first double-double of the season with 14 digs, while Douglas chipped in with 10.

In match two, USMMA totaled 39 kills, 36 assists, 11 aces, 48 digs, and six blocks, while hitting .256 as a team.

The Mariners return to action this Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. for their home opener against Brooklyn at Liebertz Gymnasium.
