Mariners Falter On The Road At Kean, 14-8

UNION, N.J. (March 15, 2025) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team fell on the road at non-conference opponent Kean University, 14-8, on Saturday at the Cougars' Alumni Stadium. The loss drops the Mariners' record to 3-2, while Kean improves to 7-1.
 
Game Link Three Mariners got on the scoresheet with multi-point games, as sophomore Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) scored five goals, senior Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) added three goals and an assist and freshman Landon Locke (Midlothian, Va.) dished out two helpers.
 
Junior defender Jake Rossman (Apple Valley, Texas) tied for the game-high with three caused turnovers, while Locke and sophomore Brendan Ring (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up a team-high three ground balls apiece. Sophomore goalie Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) made 19 saves on the afternoon.
 
Kean opened the scoring, but the Mariners answered with three-straight, two by Behr and one by Emerick, before the Cougars closed out the opening quarter with their second tally. The two teams scored three times each in the second quarter and the Merchant Marine led 6-5 at halftime.
 
The Mariners opened the scoring in the third, but the hosts responded with seven-straight tallies into the first four-plus minutes of the fourth quarter to pull ahead 13-7.
 
For Kean, senior Nick Thorne led all players on the day with seven points on four goals and three assists, while three other Cougars recorded multi-point games – junior Dylan Johnson with five (3G, 2A), senior Anton Updale with five (4G, 1A) and sophomore Aarin Arbore with four (3G, 1A). Freshman Wilfredo Crispin won 13-of-17 face-offs and picked up a game-high seven ground balls, and Johnson and junior Drew Tucker both had three caused turnovers apiece. Junior goalie Nick Paterno made 13 saves for the victory.
 
Up next, the Mariners host Western New England next Saturday, March 22. Opening face-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
