KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2025) – The USMMA women's soccer team defeated Mount St. Mary College, 2-1, in absolutely dramatic fashion on Tuesday night in a battle of two Skyline-undefeated teams at Bartoszek Field. The victory improves the Mariners to 7-3-2 (6-0-1 Skyline), while the Knights fall to 5-7-1 (5-1 Skyline) in defeat.

Mount St. Mary scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute on kind of a fluke play, where senior Kaitlin Hansen rushed in on a break off a deep ball and fooled the keeper by just slightly redirecting it past her and the ball found its way into the wide open net.
Â
The Mariners out-shot the Knights 5-4 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Â
The second half was practically dominated by Merchant Marine, as they fired 12 shots and had a number of real quality chances early on, but the Mariners just couldn't find the back of the net.
Â
That was until the 84th minute, when a free kick by junior
Faith Sammons (Aubrey, Texas) found sophomore
Jayme Santasiero (Houston, Texas) who directed it in past the MSMC keeper for the equalizer.
Â
The game-winner also came on a set-piece, as the Knights were called for a foul with under 20 seconds to play and the referee stopped the clock with just 11 ticks left. This time it was junior
Ainsley Carlon (Gilbert, Ariz.) who took the free kick and it found the head of freshman
Ruby Karls (Lexington, Ky.) at the far side of the box, who angled the ball into the near side of the net to put the Mariners ahead 2-1 with just eight seconds remaining.
Â
Sophomore keeper
Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) made three saves in the victory while her counterpart for Mount St. Mary, freshman Julianna Ewashko stopped seven Mariner shots.
Â
USMMA returns to action this coming Saturday, Oct. 11, when they travel to nearby Old Westbury. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Panther Field.
