NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against Mount St. Mary at Kaplan Field on Tuesday evening in Skyline action. The Mariners' record stands at 7-3-3 (4-1-2 Skyline), while the Knights' record is 5-3-5 (2-1-3 Skyline).

Junior Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) opened the scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from classmate Andrew Jung (Fairfax, Va.), putting USMMA in front 1-0 early. The Knights answered with two goals in quick succession as Marco Mazzarelli scored in the 21st minute to knot it up at one off a pass from TJ Mark. Then, Mark twinkled the twine a minute later in the 22nd minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead going into the halftime break.
Merchant Marine put forth a strong offensive push in the second half that included 14 second-half shots and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Novotny would find the equalizer in the 55th minute, finishing from close range to level the match at 2-2. He almost gave the Blue and Gray back the lead in the 85th minute, but Noah Horn turned away his opportunity from the bottom center.
USMMA outshot Mt. St. Mary 19-5 overall in the match. Junior Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) made three saves in goal for the Mariners.
Merchant Marine returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they travel to face Old Westbury in another Skyline matchup.
