BRONX, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team surrendered just four points in the first quarter and rolled to a 73-60 victory on the road against Mount Saint Vincent. USMMA improved to 12-1 (9-0 Skyline) and extended its winning streak to 11 games, while UMSV dropped to 7-7 (5-4 Skyline).

Senior
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) scored a team-high 17 points to lead USMMA. Freshman
Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Va.) registered a 13-point, 18-rebound double-double, while sophomore Emily
Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) added 15 points. The Mariners shot 54.0 percent (27-of-50) from the floor and posted a +20 margin (45-25) on the glass.

Gretta Baker and Erin Smith scored 22 points each to lead UMSV, which made just 2-of-21 field goals (9.5 percent) in the first quarter. The Dolphins ended up shooting 33.8 percent (23-of-68) from the floor for the game.

Barton had two quick layups as the Mariners jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the 7:23 mark. After UMSV found the scoring column, Grasseler scored four points as part of an 8-0 run that put the Mariners up, 15-2, with 2:57 to play. The Dolphins ended the scoreless stretch with a layup before USMMA scored four unanswered points to make it a 19-4 game after ten minutes of action.

The Dolphins opened the second quarter with a 9-2 run that quickly trimmed the USMMA advantage to eight, 21-13. The Mariners promptly countered with a 9-2 run of their own to regain a 15-point edge, 30-15, at the 5:14 mark. Freshman
Jayna McIntyre (Scranton, Pa.) later drained a 3-pointer in the final minute to put the Mariners up, 40-19, at halftime.

After junior
Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) extended the USMMA lead to 26 points, 47-21, with a 3-pointer at 7:54 in the third, UMSV answered with a 6-1 run. Junior
Cevyn Crutcher (Huntsville, Ala.) then had back-to-back buckets that helped push the lead to 54-27 with 5:38 to go. The Dolphins scored the next five points before another Ramsden 3-pointer keyed a 6-0 run as the Mariners took a 64-38 lead after three quarters.

Jackson opened the fourth with a 3-pointer that gave USMMA its largest lead of the contest, 67-38. The Dolphins immediately responded with a 9-1 run that cut the USMMA lead to 21 with 7:50 still on the clock. The Mariners still led by 19 with 1:31 to play before UMSV scored the final six points of the game.
