Game 1
Junior
Garrett Clapsaddle (Murphy, N.C.) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, while classmate
Jack Millen (Shelby, N.C.) was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Senior
Brice Garner (Fort Collins, Colo.) went 1-for-3 with a double, the lone extra-base hit of the day for the Mariners.
Senior starter
Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) worked a quick 1-2-3 first inning, but found trouble in the second before benefitting from an out at the plate to keep the game scoreless. Back-to-back one-out singles were followed by a third-straight single, but freshman
Tommy Chiappetti (Buckeye, Ariz.) came up throwing and cut down the runner attempting to score from second.
USMMA then took the lead with a run in the third. Garner led off with a double, but was thrown out trying for a triple before freshman
Landon Troutt (Fairfield, Calif.) restarted things with a single to left field. Millen reached on an error before Clapsaddle gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI single.
The Golden Eagles, however, loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of third as part of a seven-run frame. A one-out double then cleared the bases before a walk and a single set up the second three-run double of the inning. Another run came home on a wild pitch to give the home team a 7-1 lead.
Reistetter led off the fourth with a single, but was stranded as the next three batters were retired. USMMA stranded another runner on first in the fifth, and left runners on first and second in the sixth.
Game 2
The Mariners were held hitless through four innings and finished with just six hits in the contest. Chiappetti finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Clapsaddle was 1-for-4 with an RBI to pace the Mariners. Junior
Travis Leatherwood (Catonsville, Md.) had a double as part of a 1-for-3 day at the plate
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Golden Eagles plated three runs after opening the inning with back-to-back triples.
USMMA, meanwhile, was held hitless until Leatherwood doubled to lead off the fifth. Sophomore
Charles Cahalan (Overland Park, Kan.) added a one-out single in the frame, but the Mariners were kept off the board.
Following two quick outs to open the sixth, the Mariners looked to break through with a two-out rally. Millen walked and took second on a wild pitch before Chiappetti singled and another wild pitch set up runners on second and third. A flyout ended the inning, however.
Three-straight singles to open the bottom of the sixth led to three runs as the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 6-0.
St. Joseph's-Long Island added an unearned run in the seventh before USMMA got on the board in the eighth. Freshman
Ben Bridges (St. Petersburg, Fla.) started things with a leadoff single before Troutt worked a one-out walk. Chiappetti and Clapsaddle each followed with two-out RBI singles as the Mariners pulled to within 7-2.
The Mariners open a five-game homestand on May 1 with a 7 p.m. game against Albertus Magnus. A live video feed of the game will be available with links on
