Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Mariners Double Up Mount St. Vincent, 14-7

BRONX, N.Y. (April 10, 2024) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team defeated Skyline Conference foe Mount St. Vincent, 14-7, on the road Wednesday night at the Dolphins' Marillac Field. The Mariners' fifth-straight victory improved their record to 7-2 overall (4-0 Skyline), while UMSV fell to 4-6 (2-2 Skyline) in defeat.
 
Game Link Freshman Leslie Wysong (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) led the team with her third-straight five-point effort, as she produced two goals and three assists on the night. Three other Mariners recorded four points each, fellow freshman Grace Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa.) and junior Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.) both had three goals and one assists, while junior Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) scored twice and dished out two assists.
 
Senior Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) found the back of the net two times, while classmate Reagan Jetter (La Jolla, Calif.) and sophomore Emma Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) both added a goal apiece.
 
Picozzi led all players in the game securing eight draw controls, while also picking up a team-high five ground balls and causing two turnovers. Sophomore goalie Karianna Eagle (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) recorded nine saves and also picked up four ground balls on the night.
 
Mount St. Vincent scored first five minutes into the opening quarter and the two teams traded the first six goals of the game before Merchant Marine strung together seven-straight to take a 9-3 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Dolphins scored two of the last three before the halftime break and the Mariners led 10-5 at the midway point.
 
There was a total of only six goals over the final 30 minutes, as USMMA outscored UMSV 2-1 in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the victory.
 
For the Dolphins, junior Alicia Rodriguez led all players with seven points on three goals and four assists, while also picking up a game-high six ground balls and a team-best seven draw controls. Senior Alyssa LaTorre added two goals and freshman Makenna Reekie made 13 saves between the pipes in the losing effort.
 
Up next is the annual Sound Shootout against Skyline rival SUNY Maritime College at home this Saturday, April 13. Opening draw is scheduled for 12-noon at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Lacrosse Schedule Page.
