Mariners Win Last Home Game Of Regular Season, 5-1, Over Rival SUNY Maritime

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2024) – On Wednesday night, the USMMA women's soccer team took care of business in its regular season home-finale over Skyline rival SUNY Maritime, 5-1, down at Bartoszek Field. The Mariners improve to 8-2-4 (7-1-2 Skyline), tying last year's program record for wins in a season, while the Privateers fall to 6-8-1 (1-7-1 Skyline).

Game Link Sophomore Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied three-straight goals to open the scoring in the 17th, 23rd and 25th minutes. The first marker was assisted by senior Natalie Colpoys (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Sarah Welsch (Broomfield, Colo.). It was Forman's first career hat-trick.

Freshman Jayme Santasiero (Houston, Texas) added her fifth goal of the season in the 27th minute and sophomore Ainsley Carlon (Gilbert, Ariz.) tallied her third of the year in the 35th minute to give Merchant Marine a 5-0 lead that it took into the halftime break. Welsch assisted on Santasiero's goal and Colpoys picked up an assist on Carlon's rebound marker.

The Privateers found the back of the net in the 77th minute to spoil the shutout. Maritime's sophomore keeper Devon Etienne made 12 saves over the 90 minutes in the losing effort.

For USMMA, senior Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) earned the win but did not face one shot on goal during the first half of action. Freshman Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) played the second half.

The Mariners close out the regular season on the road with a huge Skyline contest at Sarah Lawrence College this Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Fleming Field in Yonkers, N.Y.
