YONKERS, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2024) – In a physical game that had seven combined cards, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team registered its 11th clean sheet of the season with a 2-0 victory at Sarah Lawrence. USMMA improved to 9-2-4 (8-1-2 Skyline), while Sarah Lawrence fell to 10-7-1 (7-2-1 Skyline).

Sophomore
Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied the game-winning goal to lead USMMA, while junior
Emma Cox (Huntingtown, Md.) added a goal and sophomore
Ainsley Carlon (Gilbert, Ariz.) registered an assist. Senior
Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) made six saves to earn the shutout.
The USMMA offense wasted no time grabbing the lead as Forman took a pass from Carlon and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in just the 6th minute.
The Gryphons did not register a shot until the 15th minute when Ripperger came up with a save.
Junior
Morgan Mitchell (Amory, Miss.) had a shot saved in the 22nd minute before Cox was also denied on an attempt in the 34th minute.
Sarah Lawrence had the final two chances of the first half, but Ripperger made saves in both the 38th and 39th minutes and the game remained 1-0 at halftime.
After missing off-target in the 50th minute, freshman
Jayme Santasiero (Houston, Texas) had a shot saved in the 53rd minute of action.
The Mariners then caught a break in the 58th minute as a Sarah Lawrence red card forced the Gryphons to play short-handed for the remainder of the game. Despite the disadvantage, it was the Gryphons that had the next on-target attempt. Ripperger, however, made the save on the shot in the 60th minute.
USMMA then took advantage of the extra player as Cox tallied the insurance goal that made it a 2-0 game.
The Gryphons continued to test Ripperger, but the keeper continued to turn away shots. Following a save in the 66th minute, the senior made one final save in the 78th minute to preserve the shutout.
The Mariners will now await the conclusion of all remaining regular season games before the bracket announcement for the 2024 Skyline Championship Tournament, which begins on Saturday, Nov. 2.
