KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team was scored upon for the first time in nine Skyline games this season and saw its 10-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Mount Saint Vincent on Senior Night at Bartoszek Field. USMMA fell to 7-2-4 (6-1-2 Skyline), while UMSV improved to 7-5-1 (6-1-1 Skyline).

Freshman
Jayme Santasiero (Houston, Texas) scored a goal to lead USMMA, while classmate
Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) made two saves. Javiera Sanchez had six saves to pace the Dolphins.
UMSV set the tone with a goal in just the second minute of action and followed with another goal in the eighth minute for a quick 2-0 lead.
USMMA tried to cut into the deficit in the 10th minute, but a shot by sophomore
Ainsley Carlon (Gilbert, Ariz.) was saved. Junior
Morgan Mitchell (Amory, Miss.) then missed wide left in the 16th minute before missing wide right in the 18th minute.
Fields kept it a two-goal game in the 28th minute with a save on a header attempt off a corner kick. Fields stopped another shot in the 38th minute, but a free kick set up a header tally that gave UMSV a 3-0 lead in the 41st minute.
The Mariners strung together a pair of chances in the 59th minute as Santasiero had a shot saved and hit off the crossbar before a rebound attempt from Carlon was also saved by Sanchez. Santasiero then had another attempt saved right at the 61-minute mark.
Freshman
Sarah Welsch (Broomfield, Colo.) had the next opportunity for the Mariners in the 63rd minute, but Sanchez made yet another stop to keep USMMA off the board.
Following a pair of off-target attempts, USMMA found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Santasiero collected a loose ball in the middle of the box after a throw-in and beat the keeper with a shot into the lower right corner to make it a 3-1 game.
The Mariners were unlucky in the 71st minute as a shot after an impressive run down the right side by Santasiero found the right post.
UMSV nearly extended its lead in the 79th minute, but freshman
Lauren Enterline (Harrisburg, Pa.) cleared the ball off the line for a defensive save.
Back at the other end, Welsch was denied by another Sanchez save in the 81st minute. Junior
Marina Ronzoni (Riverhead, N.Y.) then had a shot blocked past the endline for a corner kick in the 88th minute, but the Mariners could not take advantage and the game ended 3-1.
The Mariners host Skyline rival SUNY Maritime for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday night, Oct. 23, at Bartoszek Field.
