(April 15, 2023) – The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team held a three-goal advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of action, but SUNY Maritime scored four times in the fourth while shutting out the Mariners to hand the visitors their first conference loss of the season, 10-9.

Turnovers proved to be the biggest downfall for The Academy, posting a minus-eight in that category (24-16) while successfully clearing nearly 15% worse than the homestanding Privateers (77.8% to 63.6%).

Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) led USMMA in points with four (two goals / two assists) while Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) and Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) both notched three.

Speedy was the top defender on the field at all times, going for game-highs regarding draw controls (7) plus caused turnovers (4).

Nicole Nagengast (Seaford, N.Y.) fronted the fleet in ground balls with four while Anai Walters (Grantville, Pa.) collected a career-beat three grounders.

Amber Heverly (Arnold, Md.) made 12 saves while giving up ten goals, a save percentage just north of half at 54.5%.

The ladies from Kings Point will host Mount Saint Mary for Senior Day on Saturday when the team honors its eight senior student-athletes prior to their final regular season contest in Brooks Stadium.
