Turrentine Records 100th Career Point As Mariners Double-Up Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. (March 25, 2023) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team found itself tied 6-6 early in the third quarter on the road at Salve Regina on Saturday before scoring six-straight goals to claim a 12-6 road, non-conference victory. With the win, the Mariners' record moves to 4-1, while the Seahawks fall to 3-4 in defeat.
 
Senior Jenna Turrentine (Kennesaw, Ga.) found the back of the net in the second quarter and with the goal reached the 100-career point plateau. She now has 78 goals and 22 assists in just 31 games.
 
Freshman Samantha Atwood (Woods Cross, Utah) had a career day with a game-high five points with four goals and one assist. Sophomore Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) contributed two goals and two helpers, while classmate Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.) scored three times for her first-career hat-trick and junior Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) added two goals and one assist. Russo also tied for the game-high three groundballs.
 
In goal, freshman Amber Heverly (Arnold, Md.) made 12 saves and caused a team-best two turnovers.
 
For Salve Regina, Kelly Ventura led the way with three points on a goal and two assists, while Gabriella Von Beren scored twice.
 
Up next, the Mariners will open up Skyline Conference action at home against Manhattanville next Saturday, April 1. Opening draw is scheduled for 12-noon at Brooks Stadium in USMMA's first ever 142 game. Live links for the game can be found on the USMMA Women's Lacrosse Schedule Page.
