GLENSIDE, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2023) – The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse program made quick work of the home-standing Knights of Arcadia, racing out to a 11-3 halftime edge before scoring the final ten goals of the contest in a 21-3 season opening victory on the road.

The Mariners dominated in all statistical categories, outshooting Arcadia 34-10 and placing 27 of those on-goal (79.4%) to go along with 21 draw controls compared to AU's six.
It was a well-balanced offensive attack for USMMA as five different student-athletes scored five-plus points led by senior
Jenna Turrentine's (Kennesaw, Ga.) seven.
Turrentine had a game-high seven goals, scoring on each of her on-target attempts, with two ground balls and a draw control to boot.
Junior
Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) posted a Mariner-best five assists, plus a goal, en route to six points while sophomore
Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) and senior
Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) also put six points into the stat sheet.
Senior
Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) was the draw control and ground ball leader, topping all game participants in both regards, winning nine draw controls to go along with scooping up five ground balls.
Freshman netminder
Amber Heverly (Arnold, Md.) picked up the victory with a complete game in goal, making a trio of saves, tying Sheedy for the ground ball lead, and causing a turnover.
