KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 26, 2022) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Purchase College, 18-4, on Tuesday night in the final home game of the regular season at Brooks Stadium. The win improved the Mariners' record to 8-6 overall (5-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 5-8 (0-6 Skyline) in defeat.

Merchant Marine raced out to an 8-0 lead before Purchase even got on the scoreboard. The Mariners never looked back the rest of the night.

Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) and freshman

Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) led all players in the game with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior

Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) both had two-point efforts, each finding the back of the net once while also dishing out one helper.

On his birthday, junior starting goalie
Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made six saves in the first half to earn the victory. Sophomore
Coby Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made three stops in the second to secure the win.

Freshman
Noah Lastner (Pasadena, Md.) won 9-of-13 faceoffs and picked up a game-high five groundballs. Neuman won seven faceoffs and scooped up four GBs and Emerick caused a team-best four turnovers, most came while preventing the Panthers from clearing, while also picking up four groundballs.

For the Panthers, fifth-year student Ben Erkan scored twice and sophomore Riley Donovan caused a team-high two turnovers, while also tying the game-high with five groundballs.

The final tune-up before the Skyline Tournament starts next week will come this Saturday, April 30, when the Mariners travel out to Patchogue, N.Y. to take on the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's University.
