KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 23, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team welcomed in Skyline and industry-rival SUNY Maritime for the annual Sound Shootout on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. Play was tight at first against the Privateer team that came into action with an impressive 11-1 record and was tied for second in the Skyline standings behind Merchant Marine. The two teams traded the first four goals of the game in the opening quarter, but the Mariners started to distance themselves in the second, scoring three-straight to start before allowing one, but then finishing with two tallies in the final five minutes to take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.
Â
The USMMA advantage reached as high as nine goals, 12-3, late in the third quarter, however Maritime strung together back-to-back tallies to finish out the period. The final quarter saw each team score three times, with the Mariners striking first and the Privateers answering.
