NEWBURGH, N.Y. (April 27, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team quickly built up a 10-goal lead early in the second quarter and played the rest of the game with running time en route a 21-2 road win at Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary on Wednesday night. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 9-2 overall (6-0 Skyline) and clinches the #1 seed for USMMA in next week's Skyline Tournament. The Knights fall to 8-6 (1-5 Skyline) with the loss.

Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) scored five times and dished out four assists for nine points, while sophomore
Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) recorded seven points with three goals and four assists. Three other Mariners had three points on the night, all with two goals and one assists – juniors
Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) and
Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and freshman
Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.).

Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.) led all players in the game with four caused turnovers and four groundballs and tied Sheedy and MSMC senior Jackie Lindsay for the game-high with six draw controls. Junior
Meghan Malone (Crofton, Md.) caused three turnovers on the night.

Hope Germanakos (Lynbrook, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after limiting the Knights to just one goal in the first half, while classmate
Jessica Gamsjager (Denton, Texas) did the same in relief in the second half.

Senior Megan Shalvey led the Knights with two points with a goal and an assist and junior Victoria Ward had MSMC's other tally. Freshman goalie Liz Petrellese scooped up a team-best three groundballs, sophomore Maggie Horan caused two turnovers and Lindsay had the six draw controls. Petrellese suffered the loss in net despite making eight saves in nearly 35 minutes.
