CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (April 2, 2022) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game of the season up at undefeated MIT, 13-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Engineers' Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium. The Mariners fall to 3-5 on the season, while MIT improved to 9-0 with the victory.

Junior Carter Hall (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) provided the goals for Merchant Marine, as the game was tie at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Engineers struck for the next 11 goals, however, to claim the victory.
 
In goal, junior Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made 25 saves over the 60 minutes, which is a new career record, while senior Lukas Peregoy (Medford, N.Y.) led the way defensively with two caused turnovers and Winkler, sophomore Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) and freshman Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) all scooped up a team-high three groundballs each.
 
For MIT, grad. student Ryan Gebhardt had a game-high five points on four goals and one assist. A key to the win was the play at the faceoff-X by freshman Matthew Sardis, who won 17-of-19 while also securing 16 groundballs. Sophomore Heath Nilsen added four goals and senior Lukas Drexler-Bruce made 18 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
 
The Mariners are back home next Saturday, April 9, when they open up Skyline Conference action against rival SUNY Maritime in the annual Hagedorn Cup game. Opening faceoff against the two-time reigning Skyline Champion Privateers is scheduled for 12-noon at Tomb Field.
