Mariners Sail Past Manhattanville, 15-6, On Senior Day

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 16, 2022) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Manhattanville College, 15-6, on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. With their second-straight Skyline victory, the Mariners improve to 5-6 (2-1 Skyline), while the Valiants fall to 2-9 (1-2 Skyline) with the loss.
 
Before the game, the Mariners paid tribute to their nine graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony honoring Zach Hasbrouck (Greenvale, N.Y.), Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.), P.J. Darmody (East Islip, N.Y.), Jack Browne (Summit, N.J.), Antony DeJulius (Coventry, Conn.), Lukas Peregoy (Medford, N.Y.), Liam Pickett (Charlotte, N.C.), Ben Mathews (Chesapeake, Va.) and Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.).
 
Game Links It was a pair of freshman that did most of the damage for the Mariners on Senior Day, as Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) produced seven points (four goals, three assists) and Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) had six points (three goals and three assists).
 
Junior Carter Hall (Annapolis, Md.) found the back of the net four times, sophomore Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) had two tallies and one helper and two other Mariners had two points each – sophomore Erich Diehl (Long Valley, N.J.) with a goal and one assist and classmate Dylan Lomelo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) with two assists. Freshman Charlie Wahlin (Stafford, Va.) added a goal and DeJulius dished out one helper.
 
Defensively, freshman Mark Bredeck (Severna Park, Md.) caused a team-high two turnovers, while Aiello led the back-line with five groundballs. Freshman Chris Neuman (South Huntington, N.Y.) won 13-of-15 faceoffs and scooped up a team-high seven GBs, and junior Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made four saves in over 38 minutes of action in net. Sophomore Coby Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) came in in relief and made three stops in nearly 22 minutes.
 
For Manhattanville, grad student Jesse McGrath had a team-high three points on two goals and two assists, while senior Harrison Yoguez had the Valiants' only other multi-point effort with a pair of goals. Senior Bryson Buchanan caused a game-high four turnovers and classmate Melchi Agyapong had a team-best five groundballs. Graduate student goalie Jason Frezza made 16 saves in the losing effort.
 
Up next, Head Coach Dan Paccione's Mariner squad will travel to the Bronx on Wednesday afternoon for a Skyline showdown with Mount St. Vincent College. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Dolphins' Athletic Field at Marillac.
