KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 23, 2022) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team saw its fourth-quarter lead evaporate in a 10-9 overtime loss to visiting Vassar College on Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 3-3, while the Brewers improve to 5-3 in victory.

Merchant Marine held the visitors without a goal from midway through the second quarter all the way through until the beginning of the fourth. The Mariners built up a six-goal advantage during that time, leading 9-3 after three quarters.
The Brewers scored six-unanswered in the fourth quarter, however, including the game-tying goal with just one second remaining to force overtime. Vassar sophomore Dan Negron ended the game with 1:51 to play in the first extra session.
Junior
Carter Hall (Annapolis, Md.) and freshman
Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) both recorded three points on the night – Emerick on a hat-trick and Hall on two goals and an assist. Senior
Zach Hasbrouck (Greenvale, N.Y.) also found the back of the net twice over the 62-plus minutes, tying the game-high with three caused turnovers, and sophomore
Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) led the squad with five groundballs. Junior goalie
Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made 10 saves in over 62 minutes of action.
The Mariners suffered in the faceoff-X, winning just 6-of-21 draws in the affair.
Negron led all players in the game with six points (four goals and two assists), while sophomore Thomas Cameron won 12-of-16 faceoffs and tied for the game-high with junior James Nicholas with six groundballs. Nicholas and sophomore Solomon Hess both had three caused turnovers apiece which matched Hasbrouck's game-high. The Brewers' second goalie of the night, sophomore Danny Goldman, earned the victory after playing over 32 minute and making four saves. Freshman Drew Quinn got the start and had two stops in the first half of action.
The Mariners will be back in action on Saturday, March 26, when they play host to arch-rival Coast Guard beginning at 12-noon at Brooks Stadium. The men's lacrosse program will be celebrating Tom Gill Day throughout the afternoon, welcoming back the recently-retired legendary Kings Point coach to be honored for his marvelous 31-year career at the Academy.
