Mariners Rebound With 12-6 Home Win Over SUNY Poly On Saturday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 19, 2022) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team ended its two-game skid with a 12-6 home win over SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon at Tomb Field. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 3-2, while the Wildcats fall to 0-4 in defeat.

  • It was a close opening quarter and Merchant Marine led by the narrow score of 3-2 after, but the Mariners distanced themselves in the second with three unanswered and never looked back.
  • Sophomore Dylan Lomelo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) had a game-high five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Two other Mariners had four-point days – junior Carter Hall (Annapolis, Md.) with a hat-trick and one helper and freshman Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) with two goals and two assists.
  • Seniors Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Zach Hasbrouck (Greenvale, N.Y.) and freshmen Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) and Charlie Wahlin (Stafford, Va.) also found the back of the net for USMMA, with Collis adding an assist, and sophomore Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) dished out an assist as well to round out the Mariner scorers.
  • Defensively, senior Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.) led all players in the game with three caused turnovers, while also scooping up four groundballs.
  • Freshman Chris Neuman (South Huntington, N.Y.) had the best day in the X of all face-off men, winning 9-of-11 with three groundballs.
  • Senior Antony DeJulius (Coventry, Conn.) picked up a game-high five GBs.
  • Junior goalie Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made eight saves to earn the victory, while sophomore Coby Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made three stops in just over eight minutes of action.
  • For the Wildcats, Bennett Smith and Edward Rosaschi both had three points with two goals and one assist apiece. Rosaschi had a team-best three groundballs and Dillon May won 5-of-9 faceoffs, while Joseph DiBlassi caused two turnovers.
