ASHLAND, Va. (Dec. 19, 2022) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost on the road on the first day of the Suyes Holiday Yellow Jacket Classic on Monday night to the hosts and #3 nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets, 86-35. In defeat, Merchant Marine falls to 3-7 overall, while RMC improves to 8-1 with the victory.

Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) and
DeMarcus Spivey (Ashburn, Va.) both scored a team-high seven points apiece, while junior
Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) brought down a team-best seven rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets started the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back, as they finished the night shooting 51.4% from the field (37-for-72). Senior Josh Talbert led all players in the game with 14 points and five steals, while also tying for the game-high with four assists.

Two other RMC players scored in double-figures, as senior Miles Mallory added 11 points and junior Daniel Mbangue contributed 10. Senior Noah Lindsay brought down a game-high nine rebounds.

The Mariners will play in the consolation game of the Suyes Holiday Yellow Jacket Classic tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 20, against Mary Washington. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Randolph-Macon's Crenshaw Gym. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
